Meet Aaron
Aaron M. Goldsmith grew up in Canton, Michigan, where he learned early the value of hard work, responsibility, and community. While still in high school, Aaron began working in manufacturing, building transformers and cutting wire before earning a co-op position helping build control panels for Chrysler assembly lines through a subcontractor after school. Those early experiences gave him firsthand knowledge of skilled trades, engineering, and the importance of creating opportunities for working families.
After graduation, Aaron attended the University of Akron, originally pursuing Electrical Engineering before discovering his passion for education and public service. He ultimately earned a degree in education with a focus on middle level math, science, language arts, social studies, reading, and an ancillary in special education. Aaron’s academic journey reflected his lifelong belief that education can change lives and open doors for people from every background.
As part of the prestigious Franco-American Teacher in Training Program, a Fulbright-supported exchange initiative, Aaron completed half of his student teaching experience in Ohio and half in France. The program allowed future educators from both countries to compare educational systems, share ideas, and learn from one another. That international experience broadened Aaron’s understanding of education, culture, and the importance of preparing students for an increasingly connected world.
Following graduation, Aaron was hired by Baltimore County Public Schools, where he began an 18-year career in education and met his wife. Throughout his career, he worked to make learning engaging, hands-on, and accessible to students of all learning styles. His classroom experience, combined with years working in engineering and manufacturing, gave him a unique perspective on workforce development and the skills students need to succeed in today’s economy.
Today, Aaron is a small business owner with 13 years of experience running Goldsmith Education LLC, an educational company that partners with community colleges and organizations across Maryland to provide STEM-based enrichment programs, summer camps, and homeschooling classes. With 18 years in education, 13 years as a small business owner, and 9 years in manufacturing and engineering, Aaron brings real-world experience, integrity, and a commitment to serving the people of Carroll County and District 1.
